That Luang (Golden Stupa)

A golden stupa called That Luang is Laos' trademark sight. It is the biggest Buddhist stupa in Laos and has the original name of Chedi Loka Chulamani (Pali words). It was built as a small structure in the 7th to 8th century A.D. and reconstructed in 1566 A.D. by King Saya Setthathirath.

The celebration of That Luang is performed every year between the 25th and 30th of November as a Buddhist traditional festival.

That Luang is 45 metres high and 68 metres wide.
